Hello, it has been raining a lot in Northern California this winter. Since I couldn't go out much for photoshoot I thought I would blog. So drum rolls please for my first blog ever!!
Recently I got to shoot a family session in the Folsom area. Some of the locations that came up immediately were popular places such as Old Folsom, the Rainbow Bridge, and the Folsom Powerhouse. I ended up choosing Beals Point instead because I knew for starter there is less distracting backgrounds for big family photos. Our photoshoot turned out great. I really like Beal Point for two main reasons:
1. Longer "Golden Hour" created by the Folsom Dam...this is very interesting and I didn't know until my actual shoot. Since the entire area of Beals Point is lower than the Folsom Dam, the walls of the dam hides the sun as it sets in the winter time. This cuts out the harsh direct sun light and gives beautiful lights for a significant amount of time way before sunset. A photographer's dream!
2. Gorgeous sunset color is reflected clearly on the water surface. Since there is little flow and the area is shielded the water surface here is very calm. This calmness and lack of waves creates a glass like effect. I love to take shots near the water edge using the water surface as my background.
